nodSpecialists’ Patient Telemedicine Navigators Help Increase Successful Video Visits
A 12-week pilot conducted between April 19 and July 9, 2021 for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's primary care and gerontology clinics concluded that "Implementing a Telehealth Patient Navigator” can increase successful virtual visits, decrease appointment cancellations and reduce appointment no-shows.
Researchers assessed video appointments for 4,066 adult patients and found that 21% more video visits results by offering patients to connect with a patient navigator:
- 25% connected with a patient navigator before their appointment.
- 92% of patients who connected with a patient navigator successfully attended their appointments vs. 83% for patients NOT connecting with a patient navigator.
- 6% of patients connecting with a patient navigator cancelled their appointment vs. 9% for others
According to Dr. Madhu Murthy, CEO of nodSpecialists: “Our specialty care practice offers patient navigators to assist our patients with their telemedicine visits as part of our commitment to providing the highest caliber of patient care. Our practice treats many elderly chronic care patients who need assistance with their “first ever” video visit. Our team ensures each patient can enable their camera & microphone before a virtual visit – resulting in a fabulous experience for our patients.”
